Name: Keith
Door: Door Pass

Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Canon Point: S6E5: The Black Paladins end
Age: 21
Appearance: Link

History: Wiki 1; Wiki 2; Because the wiki links aren't exactly thorough (everything EXCEPT the Deerington CRAU at the bottom - he won't be CRAU'd)

Personality:

  • Loner - An only child, Keith's mom was forced to leave him as an infant in order to protect him; because he grew up not knowing her, he believed that she'd abandoned him. He was close to his father, but after a work-related incident that claimed the man's life, Keith was left a ward of the state and the loss of both parents hit him hard, causing him to develop severe abandonment issues. To combat this, he shut himself down as much as a child could and closed himself off from social interaction, earning him the nickname "that emo kid" from classmates, as heard when he managed to get farther than any of the others in the Garrison's flight simulator. This attitude and outlook followed him throughout his young life, as he was never adopted, never went out of his way to befriend others at the Garrison, and even earned him the moniker "Lone Wolf Keith" during the Voltron Show, which he himself wasn't even a part of (Coran cast Allura in his place). Keith knows he's got problems and that he pushes others away, stating that "Maybe I'm naturally untrusting because my mom left me? And so instead of accepting people into my life, I push them away before they reject me. I guess I have some walls up", and although he does make attempts to bond with others and can work well well with them, he has a tendency to default back to that loner mindset, preferring his own company over that of others.

  • Reckless - Keith can be incredibly reckless, and it's often single-minded, leaving him blinded to everything else around him and overlooking details. This was the case when he chose to take on Zarkon in a one-on-one match despite everyone else repeatedly telling him that it was too dangerous and that the Galran was too powerful a foe - he was so focused on the battle that he didn't take into consideration that he was no match for Zarkon. He often doesn't think before acting, instead running on instinct with no care to the consequences of his actions or without a plan, simply because it seemed like a good idea at the time. This typically requires that either others step in to keep him in check, such as when Lance had to yell at him on Thayserix to keep him from splitting up the team, or he has to check himself, reminding himself to calm down and be patient, in which case he uses Shiro's words of "Patience yields focus" as his go-to mantra. This also played a large part in his canon point, as he paid no mind to where he would end up or what he would possibly face when having the others launch him through Haggar's wormhole, focused entirely on the goal of retrieving Shiro.

  • Temperamental - Keith has been described by others as a hot-head, and this... is entirely true. He's short-tempered and doesn't consider the feelings of others when he goes on the 'attack', such as when he accused Pidge of putting the lives of two people above everyone else in the entire galaxy, despite the fact that those two people were her family so to her, they meant everything. He has a tendency to respond to taunts and threats of any level with violence and aggression, something he's done even since childhood where he'd not only been described by teachers as a 'discipline case' but was also later expelled from the Garrison for various "discipline issues". How he reacts to things is a bit of a wildcard, because he goes from 0 to 60 in seconds, and one moment can be playing a game and the next, he's stealing your car.

  • Self-sacrificing - If there's one thing about Keith that speaks volumes, it's that almost nothing he's ever done has ever been for himself. He's not an inherently selfish individual and would walk through hell and back if it meant someone else didn't have to suffer. He knows what loss is, and doesn't want to see others have to go through what he did. To this end, he actually attempted to sacrifice himself at Naxzela in a desperate gamble to destroy Haggar's shields if it meant the Coalition could have a shot at winning the battle. Even when he left the team to go with the Blade, he didn't go with selfish intentions; Voltron needed a leader who could dedicate time and energy to strengthening the growing rebel alliance and Keith just wasn't it - even if he'd had the time, he didn't have the right personality for it, whereas Shiro did. It just didn't make sense to him to have a paladin sit out when there was a way to get the math right and have everything work out in the end, and when the time came that Keith was needed to act as Voltron's leader, he didn't back out, instead choosing to take on the mantle of defending the lives of everyone in the universe.

Powers and Abilities:
Piloting – His piloting skills are top-notch, and he far surpassed most everyone else in the Garrison even as a child. Whether it's a simulation, an Altean pod, a Galra fighter, or a Lion, he adapts quickly and instinctively to the controls and can outfly most people.

Hand-to-hand combat – Keith's seen several times even from the start of the series as being able to take down people larger than himself with very few blows. He's agile and flexible, coming in low and hitting hard, and excels with close range combat and weaponry (his preference is blades). He's also ambidextrous and able to dual wield, switching between hands over the course of battle.

Galran heritage – Keith is a halfbreed in that his father is human while his mother is part of a tall, long-limbed, purple-skinned, and long-lived alien race known as the Galra. Visually, he looks no different than any other human. He is, however, stronger, faster, more resilient, and more agile than he appears. When burned by magic, his skin turns a blotchy purply color and when under extreme duress, his eye-teeth become more pronounced like fangs, his pupils elongate and become more feline, and the sclera of his eyes takes on a yellowish hue. And while in game it's kind of useless, this heritage also allows him to interface with Galran technology as it's keyed so that only those of Galra blood (or Galra tech such as sentries or Shiro's arm) can use it.

Inventory:
His Marmoran blade - Basically a knife that responds to his Galran blood to become a sword. Made from luxite, which is some sort of rare metal ore in the series, it also has a glowy rune near the handle and a glowy stripe when it's a sword, the glow being that it's in tune with the user's life force - when the user dies, the blade's glow dims and goes out. Other than that... it cuts stuff? It's literally just a fancy knifesword that belonged to his mother and has special meaning to him.

Black bayard - The traditional weapon of a Paladin of Voltron. It takes the shape of a sword for Keith, and later an energy cannon, but he hasn't unlocked that upgrade yet, nor will he be.

The offer of cash to help attract people to one of the booths at the Sexpo was one that, as much as he wanted to pass it up, he really couldn't. Even in the desert, he hadn't been flat broke, but here, the only thing in his wallet was lint, and unfortunately, money makes the world go 'round. Without it, survival could be difficult and if he couldn't survive here, then he'd never make it home.

"No! Absolutely not! Forget it, I refuse!" Or, well, survival was important up until he saw what was expected of him.

Handing out fliers or free samples of stuff, he could handle. Wearing a stupid mascot costume was a little more demeaning, but still doable. Wearing his hair in pigtails while dressed in what amounted to a sexy schoolgirl costume and handing out free samples of penis-shaped lollipops in a condom-styled wrapper for a booth selling sex-themed candies? Yeah, that's a no.

Except for the part where they'd already gotten him dressed up in the outfit before he really knew what the job entailed, and because he'd signed a paper for the booth's owner stating that he was agreeing to work for so many hours for pay, which -as they're quick to remind him- was a legal and binding contract, one of many that he'd have to learn to adhere to during his stay in the city. It didn't help that in a venue such as this, Security was never far away, and the last thing he needs is to get in trouble now. He's getting paid for his time, so he should be grateful they were willing to give him a chance!

Growling and grumbling under his breath, Keith begrudgingly accepts the offered tray of candies and trudges out from the back of the booth to start his shift, handing out cock-pops to the masses and trying to adjust the short skirt to keep from accidentally flashing people.
